KPV is a tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val) representing the C-terminal fragment of the endogenous neuropeptide alpha-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (alpha-MSH). It is characterized by potent anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, operating independently of the melanocortin receptors (MCRs) typically associated with pigmentation. KPV functions by modulating the NF-kappaB signaling pathway and inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Research applications include investigations into inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) models, wound healing acceleration, and the regulation of dermatological inflammatory responses.
